|Description:||At the Kirchhoff Institute of Physics of the University of Heidelberg a
PhD position (physics, computer science, electrical engineering)is available in the field of electronic design automation for mixed-signal ASIC design.
The position will be in the EU-funded FACETS project bringing together 70 scientists in the fields of neuroscience, electronic engineering, computer science and physics to build a large-scale hardware model of cortical microcircuits. Electronic design automation (EDA) remains a big challenge in the area of complex mixed-signal ASIC design as it is part of the FACETS project.
The successful candidate will pursue his/her PhD in the research of new algorithms and the development of the corresponding software tools for automatic layout generation. The neural network chip at the core of the FACETS hardware system must be configurable to a wide variety of possible network topologies. The work of this thesis should allow to test different candidate chips created automatically from a SystemC model and a set of analog and digital building blocks.
Requirements:The candidate should have a Diploma or Master degree in one of the following fields: computer science, electrical engineering or physics, with an interest in EDA technology and microelectronics. Excellent C++ programming skills and practical knowledge of at least one hardware description language (Verilog, VHDL etc.) is necessary.
